C300 disk freeze ups in windows 7

Hi All, I wanted to make a post here to chronicle my experience trying to fix the problem of random freezes requiring hard reset with my Vaio Laptop. I also wanted to see if anyone else is having this same problem. Problem Laptop is freezing on me randomly I could just have a powerpoint open, and it still freezes on me. Hard drive light remains orange, and the screen freezes. I cannot move the mouse. Random mashing of the keys on the keyboard does not give off any beeps.

I swapped out the original with the solid state drive. Crucial M4 SSD kept freezing on me start up. Then, I'll take it from there. Id really like to say that this isn't the cause of the problem. The highest the temperatures ever get is 80 degrees Celsius. I'll take it to the care center anyway to get it cleaned out. So far I have not had any problems. I will keep updates posted.

It's the same error that occurs completely randomly. Must be some incompatability with Norton and the Sony computers? Installed Microsoft Security Essentials 2. Hopefully, the computer wont freeze up anymore. I have re-installed Norton now. I'll suck it up and do frequent saves from now on.

Guess I'll have to wait for Windows 8 to come out. I believe this will take care of the problem and have YET to experience any freezes. I will immediately update this post, if ever I continue to get any freezes. My C is brand new, with the FW and all. It still stutters once in a while. Arcadio said:. Old Hippie said:. It's the most compatible driver and the performance difference is small. Damn, I meant disable C3 reporting. Sorry, my bad. Feb 16, 4, 2 Martimus Diamond Member. Apr 24, 4, Fresh OS install? Enable write caching and turn off write cache buffer in the device manager? Try disabling C3 reporting. How do you do that? May 28, 2, 19 I think its luck of the draw. I have the C and a P67 motherboard. Mine stuttered and I too get that error in event viewer. I did the fix posted at crucial forums and its been all good since.

For some the fix works and for others it doesn't yet we have almost the same hardware go figure Mar 21, 13, 6 It probably would have fared the same in whatever situation you are in, and would be more likely to have issues due to being new and less widely tested.

The C and C on a non TRIM capable machine drop to unacceptably bad performance when hammered with random writes. Anandtech m4 review mentioned that and said they will stutter without TRIM. Some people don't have it, but that doesn't mean it's not there. I've also been getting small freezes and hiccups since Add another victim to the upgrade. I am having the same stuttering issues, particularly noticeable in Firefox but also in the Win7 desktop and other apps.

High latency, decreased system responsiveness. Worked flawlessly until I upgraded to Ok, done reading this thread. I should have done that before updating the fw of my C GB to So yeah, add me to those poor idiots with the already mentioned stuttering problems.

Reminds me of my old IDE drive before it died. I really don't know now should I buy C Old Hippie said:. If it doesn't work send it back. I "see" says the blind Old Hippie. Just not sure I want to sign on for the myriad of firmware updates and issues that will surely come with the new drives Joined Nov 15, Messages I am really excited to retire my Vertex 1 for the new Vertex 3, should be quite a bit faster. I got my system put together last Thursday and it is working great. Great news.

There will be a new firmware for C that addresses and corrects the version issue. Just anounced on Crucial forum. New firmware will be available in late April Joined Dec 23, Messages The fix disables a power management feature of the drivers. I'm kinda lost here.

It's got nothing to do with the brand of the drives that are connected to it. I don't know. I did some reading on the Intel Support site.

Some folks solved the problem with their Intel SSD's by simply changing their power plan so that it does not put disks to sleep. In fact they could reproduce the freezing by setting the time limit to 3 minutes and waiting 4. I'm guessing this is just another way to get to the solution posted.
